CHD Awareness Week

It's that time of year again, CHD awareness week. I suck and didn't post anything yesterday, but today I will post the information on Sophia's heart conditions for all new and old readers.

The first of Sophia's diagnosis was a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). This is a hole between the right and left ventricle. Sophia's was very large and part of it was left open because of the size.

I also learned while we were in Seattle last moth that she had an Artrial Septal Defect (ASD). This is a hole is the hearts upper two chambers. This defect was closed completely.

Sophia's third condition was an Aortic Stenosis. This was caused by the VSD blocking her artery, which caused the artery not to develop as quickly as the rest of her heart. This condition actually corrected itself after the VSD was closed.

The last condition Miss Sophia had was Interrupted Aortic Arch. This is where the aortic arch isn't fully developed and is needed to be brought back together. This repaired arch has been the one area that has caused the biggest problem! :0) Sophia has a stent placed in this aortic arch, that was placed after her surgery in November 2008 and this past January she had a balloon angioplasty placed there.
Stay tuned for more tomorrow!
