I wanted to post something today about the statistics of CHD in children in Alaska like I did in 2009 to see where the numbers were today. So I googled CHD in Alaska and found the link to where our governor declared February 7-14 Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week. I thought this was super cool and I decided to post that instead. Thank you Sean Parnell for your support!!
Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week
Effective Date: Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011
WHEREAS, the health, safety, and continued well-being of Alaska’s children is of paramount importance for the future of our state; and
WHEREAS, each year in the United States approximately 35,000 babies are born with a congenital heart defect; and
WHEREAS, congenital heart defects are among the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths; and
WHEREAS, over the past few decades, early diagnosis and treatments of these defects has greatly improved, and today there are over one million adults living with a congenital heart defect; and
WHEREAS, Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week provides an opportunity for families and patients whose lives have been affected to share their experiences and knowledge with the public, honor dedicated health professionals, and celebrate life and remember loved ones lost.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Sean Parnell, Governor of the State of Alaska, do hereby proclaim February 7 to 14, 2011 as:
Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week
in Alaska, and encourage citizens to raise awareness and educate themselves on all forms of congenital heart defects, and to help families and children with congenital heart defects to achieve their full potential.
