Home Sweet Home...For Now
Sophia and I got home from Seattle yesterday afternoon. It is really great to be home...we missed Jason and Gabi like crazy!
It was a great trip on the way down and we spent the first day hanging out at the hotel most of the first day. We played a lot of games and got ready for Sophia's surgery the next day.
The day of the surgery was really rough. We had initially been told that Sophia was going to have her procedure at 11:15, we were then told it was actually at 1. After going into the pre op room, Sophia wasn't taken into surgery until 2:30. Let's just say at that point you had a really cranky mommy AND Sophia. We were both extremely tired and hungry and Sophia was really missing her dad and sister. She was getting hot and she was extremely bored. To top it all off there was nothing on the television except the news and we watched the same newscast over and over and over...
Sophia did great in surgery! They let me go back with her after she got into recovery because she was a little upset. I got to sit with her and talk with her until we went to her room on the floor. Oh, wonderful Seattle Children's Hospital, how I love thee! I actually do love being in Seattle and at the hospital..they just changed all the zones and everything and I got REALLY confused getting around. Sophia had a great night, her blood pressures were amazing, some of the best numbers that I have ever seen. The WORST part of a cardiac catheter procedure is that for four hours after the procedure, Sophia needs to hold her leg flat and be calm and still for FOUR HOURS. This doesn't work very well and by 3.5 hours I felt like bribing her to keep still. We ended up making it to the four hours and she was able to sit up and play and we played until it was time for her to go to sleep...she was in heaven!
We were able to discharge from the hospital the next day and we got to spend the afternoon with my lovely cousin are her adorable twin girls. Sophia had so much fun and it was great to see her playing and being a normal four year old! We then spent the next day walking around Pike's Place and then we went to Safeco. She was so excited to see the place where King Felix plays and loved hearing about our special heart player, Kyle Seager. We then got to fly home, which was great and our entire family and Sophia's BFF came and saw us at the airport. It made my mommy heart so happy and it warmed my heart to know there are so many people that love my little girl.
Now to the not so great part. Sophia had great numbers and did great in her surgery, however, Dr. Jones did look at the membrane that concerned Dr. Wellman. The membrane was concerning for Dr. Jones and he is going to staff with the surgical staff this Monday to see when they want to do the surgery. They also want to remove the stent and put a new one in, which also will need to be an open heart. So for right now we are just sitting and waiting for the phone to ring...

I'm glad the cath went well for Sophia and you two had a fun time together while in Seattle...so sorry to hear that she's facing an open-heart surgery soon. Ugh. I know how hard it is...let us know and we'll try to make it over to see you guys while you're in Seattle this time!
Thanks Katie. Just waiting to hear from the surgery center and then I'll let you know when we'll be down. I'mmshooting for at least May, so all four of us can come, but we'll see
